This week, world leaders are gathering in midtown Manhattan for the Clinton Global Innitiative Annual Meeting, working to develop solutions to some of the world’s most intractable problems.
I’m excited to share that I am joining this renowned group, on behalf of University of the People, to present our commitment to action: the democrtatization of higher education in Haiti.
Following January’s earthquake, 28 of Haiti’s 32 major universities were completely destroyed and the four remaining were severely damaged. While there is an enormous amount of work to be done, we hope to do our part by providing university-aged, Hatian students with the opportunity to attend University of the People.
Over a three year period, UoPeople will accept 250 qualified students to study online with their peers around the world, utilizing the institution’s resources to earn an Associate’s Degree in either Business Administration or Computer Science.
This commitment is designed to elevate and empower the youth population in Haiti, many of whom currently reside in refugee camps and would not otherwise have the means to pursue higher education. By bringing educational resources and encouraging students to study in their home country, we are not only helping individual project participants, but providing them with the vital skill set to rebuild their country while also raising the standards for higher education within Haiti.
What’s your commitment to action?
Thank you

Mr Reshef, what are embarking to do in Haiti is heartwarming and inspiring. I must say that after the disaster I sympathised with the people of Haiti but I never considered the academic implications of their ordeal. It is reassuring to know that there are still people like you and institutions like the University of the People who still care. Thank you for your effort. We here in Sub-Saharan Africa say: may God bless the work of ur hands and mightily increase you
Thank you for your kind words of support for both Mr. Reshef and University of the People.
It is students and supporters like yourself who add extra value to our initiative.
We are grateful for your encouragement and hope we can further spread our message and enable many more people to access tuition free education.
We wish you best of luck.
Kind regards,
UoPeople Communications team.
